Want to Know How to Persuade an Audience? Read This Book!
Good communication is crucial. It is important in business and in life and it makes a tremendous difference when one is trying to persuade an audience and win them over to a specific point of view. A book that aims to help you speak at your most productive level is this book, How Highly Effective People Speak.I have read countless books on speaking and for the most part, they present a standard formula: Maintain eye contact, refer to people by name when possible, make sure your voice can be heard, etc, etc. But this book goes much further. It shows how using specific techniques can win over an audience to degrees you never would have thought possible. This book sets itself apart because it uses psychology. It shows how certain methods of speaking play to one’s psychological advantage, persuading people in ways that ordinary speaking techniques fail to do. A good example is storytelling. When you can attach a realistic sounding story to a message, especially if the story is one that will resonate with your listeners, you will be far more likely to persuade people to accept and adopt your position. Other ways to get a behavioral grip on your audience are through such means as the halo effect, agent detection bias, and the anchoring effect. Knowing what each of these is, and knowing how to use them to your advantage, are all covered in the pages of this handy guide.Throughout this book, readers will find small graphs to help illustrate key points. I found this visualization helpful, and I also appreciated the examples of famous speeches where the speaker effectively used one or more of the techniques described in this book. Ronald Reagan, John F. Kennedy, and others gave highly effective speeches that utilized the recommended tools presented in this guide. Reading these speeches, one can more readily understand how these psychological approaches make a difference when it comes to persuading an audience. There are advertisements in this book at the end of each chapter- advertisements for the author’s other books and learning materials, along with web site links to resources that will help you speak at your most effective level possible. Normally, I would find these ads a little irritating, but there is so much useful information in this book that I was more than willing to overlook this.Solid communication is an essential skill for everyone, but it is especially critical when one is attempting to give a persuasive speech. Body language, proper delivery, using complete sentences, and other factors matter, but books that focus on these strategies are a dime a dozen. How Highly Effective People Speak takes matters a step further, showing how you can sway an audience over to your point of view using tested and proven psychological strategies. It’s a book that can benefit anyone, and a book that earns my highest recommendation.

Outstanding book
This book is an excellent resource for anyone looking to improve their communication skills and become a more effective speaker. Peter draws on his extensive experience as a communication coach to provide practical advice and guidance on how to use psychology to influence others and speak with confidence and impact. One of the things I appreciate most about this book is the way it breaks down complex psychological concepts into easy-to-understand language. The author provides clear explanations of how the human brain processes information and responds to different types of communication, and he offers practical tips on how to use this knowledge to your advantage.Another strength of this book is the way it emphasizes the importance of authenticity and integrity in communication. Peter stresses that the most effective speakers are those who are genuine and true to themselves, and he provides guidance on how to cultivate a strong sense of self-awareness and authenticity in your communication style.Overall, I highly recommend "How Highly Effective People Speak" to anyone looking to improve their communication skills and become a more persuasive and influential speaker. The book is packed with practical advice, real-life examples, and actionable strategies that are sure to help you communicate with greater confidence and impact in any setting.

Amazing read
“How Highly Effective People Speak”, is a book worth spending an hour to two reading each day. Providing detailed informative speech patterns to use in conveying one’s own thoughts with effective results and strength.Although a great read I rated 4/5 stars due to some minor mistakes that were made. Such as repeating of words within or not representing an idea in a more simplified way within sentences as to get the point across without overusing words.Regardless of these mistakes I enjoyed the new constructive look into conveying effective speech patterns into one’s own life through Peter D. Andres words. I’d highly recommend this to anyone who has difficulty socializing or directing a verbal presentation/discussion. Wether they read aloud this book or read in silence the information is easy to digest and conveys what the reader must understand to become and effective speaker.

My own review
I'd like to start by saying this quote from the book "progress begins with the truth", the reason why this resonates with me so well was because I always thought I was good speaker by own standards getting to know people was easy to me, to influence/persuade people was easy to me. What wasn't easy though was me was articulating in a manner that will be for the masses and thats where I had to be honest. The most valuable skill I learned from this book was knowing your audience and communicating to them in the manner thats appropriate for that demographic, though I wont get into the specifics the strategies that I read and practiced and will utilize especially in my line of work will show. I truly appreciate the insights as well, if you are on the fence about getting this book I highly suggest you lean on the side of getting it.

Great start to the series.
I actually did a new year new me type of resolution where I wanted to become a person that has more meaningful conversations, as compared to just doing the small talk at parties. I came across this series and so far it has helped me grow so much in just a short amount of time. There are so many different levels of psychology represented in this book, it was almost overwhelming but there is no need to try to remember all of them. Just practice a handful and you'll be able to become way better at speaking.I have committed this year to complete the entire series and now I am just finishing book 3. I highly recommend this book and series!
