I recently "tore" my entire finger nail, including the nail bed, off my finger after a fall. To protect this finger while it hopefully regrows, I wear one of these all the time. Getting 50 of them will hopefully hold me until the finger is back to normal, which I am told will probably take about a year. They are even washable, which I do from time to time as well. **Q: I need to wear these on my thumbs, so I'm looking for a wide, loose fit. Would these work for that? Are they stretchy?** A: I use them on my fingers and or thumbs during deep winter when my fingertips start to split due to the cold and dryness (upper Midwest). I put a drop of lotion in the bottom and put the cot on so that my finger-split is bathed in lotion. Works equally well for either thumb or finger. So, the cots stretch well, but to wear them all nite you'd need to use medical or athletic tape to hold the cot in place. I am a man with medium-sized fingers and hands. **Q: Are these 100% cotton? What keeps them from falling off your finger?** A: I’m not sure if they are 100% cotton but the material is somewhat like an ace bandage. There is a smal elastic band that keeps them on. They do not cut off your circulation at all. They work really well, they're easy to put on, and they stay on for as long as I need them. However, they do not work with touch screens. I only gave it one star for that factor, but to be fair, there was never a claim that they did work with touch screens, and I didn't expect them to. They do have a white elastic ring at the bottom which helps hold them In place. They have a bit of an odor to them so i'm washing them before use. If you think they are a little loose be creative. You can always wrap an elastic bandage around the bottom. Or cut the tip off of a regular rubber finger cot and slip it over the top. This will also hold it in place.
