I am a woman and went down one full size. I am usually an 8 1/2 and went to a 7 1/2. I could have gone to a size 7 but I do have room in the shoe for movement of the toes. Doing competitions on hardwood gym floors, these shoes save my feet. They easily slide on and off. They have lasted well and I actually have many people ask me where I purchased my shoes from when I go to competitions. Now, I can't wear these in the dojong when I do my practice however, I am fine with that. Our dojong has wonderful flooring and there is no need for these shoes. But it depends on what kind of martial arts you do. I practice Tien Shan Pai Kung fu with approximately 4 workouts and 2 additional days in which I teach—all inside on a padded floor—and my shoes did not last more than 30 days. My typical shoe of choice has been Chuck Taylors and I’ve worn them ever since I started practicing. I typically buy new shoes every 6 months so the 30 days was a real shock to me. The main thing to be aware of is the outside sole of the shoe is very narrow so if you must wear them, I’d recommend you do not do it in wet or rugged environments. So to answer your question you technically can wear these outdoors but I would not expect the shoes to last long term. It’s a tournament shoe so I’d recommend that you either wear them sparingly or just for special occasions. **Q: I wear size 7 in women’s what shoe size would I get in men’s?** A: We would suggest 1.5 size down from your size 7 so 5.5 size should fit but please keep in mind that these shoe are supposed to stay on your feet when doing extreme kicking so it should fit tighter than normal everyday shoes. I have only one problem with them: the material is a bit rough and rubs the back of my Achilles heel raw on my right foot if I wear too low of a sock. Not a showstopper, and it's the only thing I don't like. Despite that, I would buy these again if needed.
