They confirmed that I need to start the replacement process via desertcart. It took some digging, but eventually I found a way to contact desertcart. The rep gave me two options - either return the entire set for a replacement, or he could offer a partial credit. Since I have unpacked and washed and even started using the set, and because it's just a single bowl, I opted to take the credit. The amount is more than enough to order the single bowl from the Mikasa website. So in the end I'm satisfied, but the process was not as simple and straightforward as I expected.
