I ended up doing it for my son because he couldn't understand them. He picked out things he wanted to build from the large picture pamphlet included and I mostly did the building. I involved him by asking him to find particular pieces by shape/color and having him help press together. It's a great toy to have fun with imagination. He will definitely grow into this as the years go on. Another set would be nice in future. UPDATE: A whole year later and my son still takes these out to play with.
