It all began with Ihei Arimasa Miyasaka, the 12th head of the Miyasaka family, who started a brewery at the city of Kamisuwa, Nagano, Japan. For the next 300 years, Miyasaka spent tremendous amounts of time to create a perfect sake “Masumi,” which today is highly regarded for its aroma, body, and rich taste. The paste could be used for a variety of ways: 1) soup base, 2) marinating sauce for meat, fish, and tofu. 3) salad dressing, and 4) dipping sauce. Instant Miso Soup: This type comes in two forms: powder and block. Instant Miso Soup normally has all the ingredients in the package itself such as tofu, seaweed, and garnish. The power instant miso soup usually has small tofu and garnish, however block miso soup has sizable tofu and ingredients.

Review: Best I Have Found - I have been experimenting with making my own “instant noodle quick lunches”. Some of the ramen noodle type soups have way too much salt and not much nutrition to them. I personally love the taste of miso and find a good one made from scratch has a rich and satisfying flavor. It also takes some time and effort to get it right. I am pleasantly surprised and pleased every time I make a cup of this instant miso soup. No, it’s not homemade, but with some rice noodles, fresh chives and parsley, it is quite satisfying. If I have some leftover chicken, fish and/or veggies I put them in also and it gets even better. Takes little effort and so much better for me than a sandwich and chips. I thought at first it’s a little pricey, but find now it’s quite good stacked up against a time consuming homemade scratch miso and better than any other brand I have tried. I took a picture of it, but can’t find it locally, so I’m glad I can get it on desertcart with free Prime shipping. Worth it to me.

**Q: Whats the shelf lifevon this?**
A: Freeze dried items last several years longer than dehydrated or dried foods. If stored properly you could be looking at a several year shelf life simply because it is freeze dried.  Freeze dried foods are usually more expensive because it retains the nutritional value as well as the storage life. Emergency and disaster food companies will typically sell freeze dried food opposed to dehydrated or dried foods.

A: Soybean paste, tofu, potato starch, green onion, fried bean curd, bonito extract, seaweed, MSG, salt, bonito powder, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate and vitamin E.

A: No, it's not a broth. It makes miso soup. It contains tofu mini-cubes and seaweed pieces, and the liquid is not clear.

I personally love the taste of miso and find a good one made from scratch has a rich and satisfying flavor. It also takes some time and effort to get it right. Good flavor, nice pantry addition. I sometimes have a hankering for a cup of miso soup. I try to keep some miso paste on hand, but I end up not using it. This allows me to have an easy to make cup of soup that turns out similar to what I get in a restaurant. I sometimes add bits of tofu and chive, but often nothing at all. Or I use it as a broth base to a noodle (or grain) bowl. Funny, with prices going up, I expected to have come back to this and have it be more costly. But it is on the order of 4-5 less than what I paid for it ($14.50). So current $10 ish price is way better.
