Yes and so do cheese sandwiches, ketchup, portobello mushrooms, italian food and everything chefs rave about as being flavor bombs or umami. Glutamates are glutamates. 2. American manufacturers can put a NO MSG label if they do not add the specific chemical derivative of monosodium glutamate, even if they add other glutamates that have the same chemical structure. So their no MSG claims are not that transparent as they look at first glance. Japanese companies cannot do this. 3. For what it is worth, and this is intended for those that worry about MSG- most side effects attributed to MSG have been found to be misattributed to it when the true culprit was high sodium. No clinical or scientific study has yet shown it to be as unsafe unless consumed as a solo ingedient on an empty stomach. There are a lot of chemicals in our food that can actually harm us but MSG has been around since 1908. It has a very well-established safety profile. **Q: How many calories are in each packet?** A: As there are a number of different soups, it ranges from 25-55 calories per pack. I even purchased this for my picky aunt who loved the convenience and the taste..and this is a woman who makes Miso soup from scratch (shaving the dried bonito fish and all for dashi).
