I wonder if it'll work?** A: They are very small and only hold the size of a tealight. I don't know what you mean by float a candle in it, if you mean floating the candle in water the wood would absorb it. They are not very heavy so they should float on the magnolia leaf though. **Q: You can put the wax in there? Or is just a holder?** A: I love the holders but I wouldn't put wax in them. You'd never get it out; however, I found very reasonable tealights on Amazon that last 7 hours. **Q: On their bottom side are they flat? Would they sit level if turned upside down? Ned them to put woodsy animals on top our fireplace.** A: These are natural wood, there are imperfections which add to the charm.
