Recommended *by J***R on Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2012* Update as of January, 2015: Contrary to my original review, I have discovered that the bulb in this lamp assembly is not made in Mexico but instead is made in China. The bulb housing assembly is apparently snapped together in Mexico. This bulb lasted just under 3 years -- that's a bit less than half of the 6 1/2 years that the original Sony bulb (which is made by Philips) lasted, but for the price, this bulb was still a better option. If you really want to get the Sony OEM bulb, you can -- just search for a Philips "UHP" bulb. FWIW it's possible (and very easy) to re-use the plastic housing and to just replace the bulb inside -- all you need is a screwdriver and about 10 minutes. People have reported that there are YouTube videos explaining what to do, but it's pretty intuitive.-----Our Sony KDF-E50A10 TV suddenly went dark on a Saturday morning, and I assumed the culprit was the bulb. That same Saturday afternoon, I ordered this replacement bulb through Amazon and paid $4 extra (I'm a Prime member) for next-day delivery service. Monday at noon, FedEx Express arrived with the package, which had started its trip in Phoenix. It's so fantastic to be able to order something on a Saturday and have it arrive on Monday, not even 48 hours later.The bulb was very well protected for shipping. There was an outer Amazon cardboard box containing sealed air bags as well as another, smaller cardboard box that contained the bulb. In the bulb box, there was a generous amount of customized Styrofoam that fit exactly around the bulb and its black plastic housing. I was pleased to note that the bulb was made in Mexico, which I hope means it's better quality than one made in China (which is what I sort of expected when I placed the order).Installation was simple and took less than 5 minutes. The bulb comes in a black plastic housing that slides in and out of the TV and makes it very simple to remove and install. You do not have to deal with any wires or use any tools. Instructions were included with the new bulb, and they were exactly like those in the TV owner's manual. Just unsnap two small plastic covers on the back of the TV to access the bulb compartment, grab the ring on the bulb housing, slide the old bulb and attached housing out, slide the new bulb and attached housing in, replace the two covers, and fire up the TV. The new bulb fit perfectly without any bending of the latching arms, jiggling to get proper fit, or other complications. Anybody can replace this bulb, even those without any mechanical ability (the bulb is specifically designed for consumers to be able to replace it without having to call a service person -- this is the whole point of encasing the bulb in a black plastic housing with a pull ring on the back).The original bulb in our Sony TV set lasted 6 years and 6 months, which seems to be a long time compared to other reports of TV bulb life expectancy. Maybe we just don't watch as much TV as other people or don't turn the set on and off as much. Who knows. I will point out that while we're not in a high altitude area, we've had our TV in the "high altitude" mode since we got it in order to provide more cooling for the bulb (this setting is accessible via the Wega Gate menu, and apparently all it does is make the bulb's cooling fan run slightly faster and stay running a bit longer after the set turns off, which makes a bit more fan noise, but we've hardly noticed it, even with the TV audio on mute). Maybe the extra cooling is what accounts for some of the long life of the bulb that came with the set.We are really pleased with the purchase thus far. I remember that when we bought the TV the salesperson tried to convince us that we also needed to buy a replacement bulb at the same time (for over $200), because, in his words, the original bulb was going to "blow up" at some point and we'd never be able to find a replacement when we needed it. I am glad that Amazon made this bulb easy to find and available so quickly and at a reasonable price (mind you, not that $50 is all that great a price for an item that probably cost less than $10 to produce, but it's just about the cheapest and most painless option out there).I'll update this review if we encounter any problems with the bulb, but so far, so good. Bottom line: 5 stars. I recommend this bulb, this seller, and the ease of buying through Amazon. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Just like the original. Fast Delivery (from Max Lumens LLC) *by K***S on Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2011* Original bulb lasted almost 6 years... Hopefully this one will last as long! Identical to the original bulb and works fine. However, the tv's 2 switches inside the housing area are unbelievably flimsy and kept the set from actually turning on once the bulb was replaced. (kdf-e42a10) The green power-up light turns red and flashes several times - not the "lamp" light. Solution was eventually found on-line. Small metal tab type switch way inside to the right (and slightly below) of the two bulb contacts was mis-aligned and not working. The second switch is "closed" when you replace the inner bulb door and turn the handle back to the right.
