I bought one pencil in 2H, HB, 2B, 4B, and 6B first to try them out before deciding the 2B is the pencil I can use most of the time for drawing. I have used Staedtler, Tombow, Faber Castell, and Blackwing for drawing, and normally I'll use Hi-Uni and/or Blackwing. I personally use my Hi-Uni 2B and Blackwing Matte as a carry-around 2 pencil sketching set. Sometimes I also use a Blackwing 602. Anyway, all of the pencils I mentioned above are great and I would have no complaints about using them, my personal preference is just Hi-Uni overall. That being said, I wanted to try the uni-ball because they are recommended by a French graphite artist whose work I admire. These uni-ball pencils are quite pleasurable to use, the dark end of the spectrum (2B up to 10B), are very dark and sharp, do not smudge easily, but take to blending the smoothest I have ever used. The light end must have a very high clay content - they are very light and useful for watercolor underdrawings, but I don't like them quite as well. Hope that helps! **Q: Only one picture says 2B, rest say HB, mistake?** A: It seems to be a mistake. The pencils I got all say 2B. Apparently, the HB designation is used outside the US, so perhaps all the pictures except the first are of the Japanese versions of the same pencils. The writing is super smooth and intensely dark. I take only hand-written notes when studying (yes, I'm old school), and my hand doesn't get fatigued at all when using this pencil. I don't find any noticeable difference in the thickness of the pencil or lead as mentioned in other reviews. Although, if you have dry skin, you may find you have to re-grip it often due to the shiny coating that's used. I have a nice photo comparing this new Mitsubishi Hi-Uni 2b to previous notes I took with my Ticonderoga #2, but sadly, the photo upload tool isn't working. If you prefer pencils to pens for writing, this is the pencil for you. I'll definitely be purchasing more.
