I did buy an XL, my daughter generally wears a true L in girls sizes (10/12) but I find some of the Amazon items for children run about a size small. So glad I sized up! It allowed enough room she can layer a sweater or hoodie, but it's by no means huge on my daughter. The arm length is a tad long, but her fingers poke out the sleeves. So I would say expect a slimmer fit (or buy the boys version which isn't so slim cut). But I definitely would recommend!
