This is for those who have custom power requirements. I recommend that you do not order this if you haven't read up on POE and don't understand how to use it. I have found that almost all POE kits that include power supplies, whether passive injectors like this or POE network switches, do not provide enough power to fully populate all ports at full 802.3af at 15.4 watts per port, let alone 802.3at at 25.5 watts per port. This is fine for most systems where average power per port is less than maximum but if you have long-distance IR illuminators that take more power you'll find your cameras dropping out intermittently or even premature power supply failure. To fully power 8 ports of 802.3at you need a 204 watt power supply; 8 ports of 802.3af requires 124 watts. If you look at 8-port POE injectors or switches, almost none have power supplies that can fully support the standard. This is a topic for which Wikipedia is your friend. There's a great article there. For 48v, figure just at a half amp of power supply current per 802.3at port at full power, or 4 amps for one of these injectors. The power supply I ordered did not come with mounting brackets. I can't find the link where I ordered the brackets for a lot less than this link but here's a link where you can order the mounting brackets to fit Mean Well power supplies: Mounting Brackets for Mean Well Power Supplies . For better prices - much better prices - on the brackets, search for MHS014 and look for Mean Well (or Meanwell) in the results. The vendor sells other versions if you want a "system" that includes power supply and the injector. This is just the injector, no power supply. This is for those who have custom power requirements. I recommend that you do not order this if you haven't read up on POE and don't understand how to use it. I have found that almost all POE kits that include power supplies, whether passive injectors like this or POE network switches, do not provide enough power to fully populate all ports at full 802.3af at 15.4 watts per port, let alone 802.3at at 25.5 watts per port. This is fine for most systems where average power per port is less than maximum but if you have long-distance IR illuminators that take more power you'll find your cameras dropping out intermittently or even premature power supply failure. To fully power 8 ports of 802.3at you need a 204 watt power supply; 8 ports of 802.3af requires 124 watts. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Simple yet very useful product.

This is a straightforward product, made well enough for its intended purpose. All it does is connect the 4 wires in a CAT 5 cable that are not used in a 10/100 Mb/s setup to the positive and negative supplied by the power supply (wires 4, 5 are positive and 7, 8 are negative or ground) which is not included. This is what powers the end devices on the POE ports of the device. Each POE port is also connected to its corresponding LAN port via only the the 4 wires that carry data (1,2,3,6). This device is not a switch, nor is it a hub. The LAN ports are not connected to each other. It is designed to be used in addition to a switch/router. The voltage you put in is the voltage you get coming out of the POE ports. Voltage x Current = Watts. Since you should know the WATTS that your end device needs, and you control which power supply you will use, just use this equation to figure out if you will exceed the max current per port. All of the POE ports will have the same voltage available to them. You could just connect wires 4,5,7 and 8 directly to the power supply yourself, which is what I had originally done, but this product keeps everything neat looking and tidy. Connecting wires for more than 1 or 2 devicesfor POE ends up looking like a rat's nest really fast. For the price, this device is well worth keeping things neat. I am using two of these POE injectors in very remote locations for almost 11 months of 24/7 use, and so far have had no problems. I connect the DC part of these devices directly to a battery bank. The POEs power Ubiquiti Rocket M5s with 18v and Ubiquiti Bullets at a different location with 12 volts. The only thing that I would like to see is a grounding lug. I use shielded cabling, and it would be nice if the shielded RJ45 jacks were connected to a grounding lug, for obvious reasons. Other than that, a great yet simple product, that does exactly what it claims. Hope this helps potential buyers decide if it will suit their needs. Kind regards.
