Then turn it clockwise. **Q: Is this can opener stainless steel?** A: No. It has the magnetic properties of low carbon steel. It is chrome plated. **Q: can someone please explain what the tapper is and does?** A: You can use it on a can of juice or a can of milk or other liquid when you don't want to empty the can. There are 3 parts to the tapper - the punch, the hole, and the lever. Place the little hooks of the lever under the rim of the can with the punch on the top of the can. Keep tension on the lever while pushing the punch into the lid. Only a dribble will come out of the V-shaped hole. So you have to punch another hole to let air in. Don't push that one in as far, just about half way - enough for air. It takes practice to get the tension and the punch together. Millions of these have been used. It's much easier to operate and works better than the new styles that are currently manufactured ! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Smaller, Yet Works *by A***9 on July 17, 2024* I want to give this 5*. It works well enough & I have been looking for years for this style of can opener. It just works. It is a little harder to turn, but it never skips any part of the lid. Having a liquid pour end is great for draining & makes this more versatile than other can openers. Unfortunately it doesn't fit my hand. The ones I grew up with were about an inch longer & resulted in better leverage. I would love to buy one that is longer for the house & keep this one in my camper. Even still, it opens the cans without leaving frustrating bits that did not get cut. Much easier to clean than the circle blades. Being all chrome just looks good. As long as you can turn the knob, it is easy to use.
