No. I should have taken a better look at the pictures. What is worth $150 if it is not retractable?? Definitely misleading in the description. I can only see this being useful for a stairway that you never plan on using because you would have to clip and un-clip three different straps. Returning ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Safety first! *by D***Y on Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2019* We have split level home and have metal bars going up to the upper level, no walls or wood base columns, so this baby barrier/gate fitted perfectly on the metal bars . And the design options were nice to pick from. It served well for 2 1/2 years until she learned how to climb up/down safely on the stairs. They'll be in good use again for future grandbabies! ### ⭐ Safety concerns *by C***R on Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2019* This is good for not falling down the steps accidentally but it is not baby proof. My 4 year old crawls through the bottom, the dog crawls through the bottom and I don’t want to keep it up long enough to see if my baby will figure out how to climb through it.
