The material is textured, similar to what I have seen on a vinyl inflatable boat, and is thick, especially compared to smaller ride on pool floats. I would personally prefer a smoother matte vinyl, but I am guessing that this was chosen so it would not be slippery in the water. The box states that there are cup holders on this float, but I did not see any, which I am actually happy about - every drink that I have ever had on a float like this has spilled. It is really, really nice to have a large valve for rapid inflation/deflation.It is also nice that this float comes with an actual repair kit (sections of the same kind of vinyl as used in the float, and a tube of vinyl glue), instead of just a sticker, which wouldn't work well on the textured surface, should a puncture or tear occur.Make sure your pool (or preferred body of water) is large enough for this float.
