I was concerned that they wouldn't be loud nor sound "good enough" for my space (approximately 50'x 70' area), but I hooked them up 3 weeks ago and have been very happy with the purchase. I wouldn't consider myself an audiophile, mainly a guy who likes to listen to a lot of different types of music through a good set of speakers (and whose wife is constantly asking me to "turn it down"). I must say that this pair were better than I expected. For my setup, I purchased a small Pyle amplifier and ran some conduit with some 14g CL-2 wire. The wire runs are approximately 50 ft from the source. The GS-3's look to be well crafted, sealed, with a heavy protected speaker wire exiting from the base. Instructions are included giving a few different options for placing speakers (typically, the higher off the ground and the closer to a wall, the better the sound). I had hooked them up in my garage to see how they sounded initially and was a little worried that they wouldn't perform well. Once I got them situated in their final locations outside (knee height and around 1 foot away from a perimeter wall), the sound was amplified and clear. With the amplifier, I am able to change bass and treble settings and am very happy with the levels the speakers provide. The levels that I'm playing these at are for background music, but can be pushed much higher, but I'm not looking to disturb the rest of the neighborhood. Note: I will follow up on "construction quality" in a few months, but for now I'm giving them 5 stars. For Customer Service, I've given 4 stars, but I haven't dealt with the manufacturer as of yet. I was looking at other outdoor speakers, but I read the positive feedback on these speakers and decided to jump (which is why I'm writing this - I like to read what others have to say about what I'm looking into purchasing). Weather-wise, they've held up against high UV sun, high wind, rain and snow and they've had no issues. I've thought about purchasing the bass unit (TIC-GS 50), but I really have all the sound that I need with these two speakers. I'm still really impressed with the sound from these units for the price. The hollow space underneath the speaker creates the bass sound thumps, the speaker itself is the mid-range sound, and the tweeter is the high range sound. So you get bass, mid and high range sounds amplified in a full 360 range from a single speaker. That's the beauty of these. I have one in my backyard and it sounds fantastic. **Q: I plan on setting 2 of these speakers about 30'--50' from amp. What gauge wire should I use ?** A: My speakers are about 40' and 60' from amp and I used a 12 gauge landscape wire, buried in the ground. Think my amp is 100 watt, I leave volume about 3/4, and control volume from my phone. Has worked great all summer **Q: What is the ohms resistance for these speakers?** A: 8 ohms. But keep in mind they're not not very efficient so you'll need good power to drive them to 'party' levels. Also, many of these intstallations are distant from the amp, so on a 50 ft run, if you use less than 12ga wire, the effective resistance will increase significantly, meaning even a more powerful amp needed. **Q: Have you considered Bose freespace 51 speakers before your purchase? Are you still happy with the TICs?** A: I have had a pair of Bose 51s for five years and just recently added two 8" premiums w/8" premium subwoofer to my backyard. Have to say, highs are still crisper and mid-range sound is more natural with the high millage Bose pair than with the TIC setup. I compared side by side and the TIC has a little better bass output (not surprising with three 8" drivers) but overall sound is still more pleasing with Bose.
