- 2 groups – The Big Boy locomotives were built in two groups. The first group, known as Class 1, was built from 1941, while the second group (Class 2) was built in 1944. A total of 25 Big Boy locomotives were manufactured
- The era of big boys – The era of big boys ended in 1959, when the last freight train pulled by a big boy took place in July this year. Most Big Boy locomotives were decommissioned in 1961 as the Union Pacific increasingly focused on diesel locomotives

These include a one-piece boiler replica, separate smoke flaps, a detailed train driver's stand, movable steering racks, detailed drive wheels and drive linkages, a front protection grille, a detailed coal tender with ladders and a finely detailed track replica of about 48 cm long. The kit also includes decals for two versions of the Union Pacific and comes with building instructions

**Q: I accidentally ripped several of the fragile decals of the kit, can someone inform me If I can aquire spares from the company or a different seller?**
A: Yes you can,There are a number of different decal companies you can go to. Check out Model Railroader Mag.

**Q: Would this model be possible for a 7 year old to build, with adult assistance? He's very interested in the technical aspect of steam engines.**
A: No.  Perhaps by an experienced adult with 7 year old supervision!  I, too, am interested in technical aspects of steam locomotives, but this kit, though technically accurate, does not adequately explain what the various components do, or how they relate to each other.  Better to do research on steam locomotives on the internet before trying to assemble the kit if you want to know what the pieces are supposed to represent.

**Q: is this ho gauge**
A: It is HO scale but it has no engine... it's just a model. Just like the model cars that you assemble and put in a display case.

**Q: Does this model come with instruction ?**
A: yes. There are complete step by step instructions with the model kit.

Love this model kit! Instructions are clear...ish, every part is numbered (crap, another tiny one fell off, what number was it?!? 😉😂😂) and the build is not easy/simple, it is a challenge which is what I wanted. 1 note, a listed colour on box says "Steek" but they meant "Steel" you don't have to do any knitting. Nice to learn the history behind her too.
