He's a body builder whom weighs 220. I weigh 115. It shakes when we get on or off it, but thats even when the cats jump off their cat tree on to it. **Q: Would this fit in a room with a ceiling height of 87 inches?** A: It's not a ton of room up top (definitely need bunkie board and low profile mattress/no box spring), but yes, it works for me with ceilings that height. The part of the bed where the bunkie board and matress sit is around 59-60 inches from ground. Then bunkie boards were 1.5in, and mattress 5in. I did have to purchase an alternate ceiling light fixture for this room as it was too close to the bed for comfort in my space. 9x11 with 87in ceiling. :) hope this helps. **Q: Can you put a normal full size mattress on it? Or does it require the special mattress?** A: If you put a normal full size, the thick mattress will exceed the safety bars. But, we did it anyway. So far, so good. No kids have fallen out of bed. **Q: What's the size of the area underneath the bunk? Will a twin size bed frame fit in there? Thank you!** A: A twin mattress would certainly fit, but there is no framing for it. With the framing, you'd have to choose carefully. I expected to need to bolt it to the wall for security and creaking, but it’s solid! No creaking, no shifting. Very stable. I expect to have to tighten periodically, but will update this review if anything unexpected comes up. Assembly was 1 hour, once everything was unpacked. All the pieces were there, but we verified that before beginning and inspected them for damage or irregularities. Wouldn’t want to have to disassemble the whole bed if we needed to send it back! DO leave everything loose as stated in instructions. Rattledy shifty loose, not just “not tightened” because you might need the play to line up some holes. We got this bed for my grandson to sleep in when he comes over and he loves it. IT IS HIGH! Measure your space! The space under the bed is generous and what we needed. The ladder rungs are painful, but we added gray pipe insulation and it looks and feels perfect now. I appreciate that this bed has nothing that sticks out from the frame assembly. It is SNUG against the walls. It is a booger to make, but what bunk bed isn’t! Expect a workout if you have it against walls, although it isn’t too heavy to move out if you have the room to shift it around. I don’t. And at 5’2 I definitely needed a stool and to get right up on top. The railings are a safe height even with the 8 inch memory foam mattress in a box that we purchased for it. You never know about something until it’s in your presence, but I am pleased with this purchase and don’t know why anyone wouldn’t be. Hope this is helpful to someone. Oh, and the company I purchased from on Amazon has contacted me a few times with offers of assistance, assurance that they want me to be 100% satisfied with service and product. Very helpful. Not hard to reach at all.
