It is a 100ft (when expanded) size hose. With that being the case, the hose has some weight to it, but it is not nearly as heavy as your standard 'rubber' hose. So as far as sturdy goes, this holder poses no issue for the type of hose I have. I'd like to assume it would be just fine holding a standard rubber hose as well. As you can see in the pics, it holds my 100ft hose with plenty of space to spare. A rubber hose would be equally well suited for this holder as well. Pay attention to the depth of the holder, I purposely chose this one because it wasn't as wide/deep as others listed. I definitely recommend this product!

This is extremely nice and very sturdy. It might be just a holder for the hose, but it is much nicer to look at than other typical holders. Installation is very easy and simple.
