I'm not sure if I understand from reading the reviews and product description...** A: I'm not a scientist unfortunately. I can tell you it does work. You won't get your answers on here. I would recommend reaching out to the manufacturer. **Q: Do you have to use their litter in order for this to work?** A: No, I believe you can use this in any clay or clumping litter. Not sure how it would work in other types such as feline pine or the crystals type. It did not work for my cat. **Q: Is this attractant based upon catnip? My older cat is immune to catnip, and could care less.** A: The label says the ingredients are "natural materials," and to me, it looks and smells just like catnip. Whatever it is, it just works. For the low price, it's worth the chance that it might work for you. My cats aren't really interested in catnip-filled toys, but sure sniffed around a ton when I put this in their cat box.
