I am dealing with Hospice right now and they love the idea also. The problem is the patient is 6 foot 8 inches tall which make the body mass larger then I believe I can handle even with a gate belt. I think it is really a brilliant idea but not for all circumstances. Its very much worth a try for those with limited ability to shuffle their feet as its a very controlled turn to say a wheel chair or commode. Hospice has never seen this before and they like the idea, but in my particular case its not recommended only because they say he has to be able to bear 25% of his weight. I have no idea how to determine that ability so right now we are not using it. Either we will return it or donate to Hospice just to get the idea into Hospice and they have a working model to train with. Like I stated its a wonderful idea and as someone who spent 25 years in Radiology, it would work in many situations for transferring a patient from point A to point B. In an acute care situation I would love to have this option available, in home care its also an amazing idea for simple controlled transfers and also a gate belt is a must. Its a great idea but in my case it simply might not work only because of the pure size of the patient it might not be an answer here. Depending on the situation it might be a perfect answer for controlled transfers with a gate belt, it solves a lot of problems.
