They're just plastic right** A: I have not had any issues with breaking, chipping, etc. They are plastic but sturdy enough that I don't think they would break simply by crocheting with them. If you were to sit/step on them by accident they may break but metal hooks would get bent as well. Had stroke 2 yrs ago using crocheting to get movement back in my hand and arm seems to help.** A: Personally, I much prefer the metal over the plastic. I've only used metal crochet hooks for 63 years and never heard of plastic tips until you mentioned them. I feel they hold up better and are more gentle on the stitches that you are using. Plastic, I believe deteriorates a little sooner making them brittle enough to surprise you and break, or through no fault of the manufacturer, can have a little piece where it's not completely finished off and snag the yarn you're using. When we flew the last time, I even used the metal hooks and though they were in my carry-on bag, never had any difficulty getting them through security. I hope this helps you somewhat. These are an excellent option for if you need crochet hooks in the larger sizes. I do prefer to use metal however, but the metal ones I use (Tulips and Clovers) don't come larger than 6.5 mm. I use a lot of chunky yarns for sweaters and Afghans, and these are perfect for the thicker yarns. Yarn glides very easily with these hooks, and there are no sharp edges. The only yarn type I've never tried with these are those really scratchy "scrubby" yarns, which I only use with the low end aluminum hooks. I also like the ergonomic handles, and the fact they are lightweight so my wrists don't fatigue as fast, especially when using the thicker heavier yarns. I would recommend to get a set of these, and wait for a sale.
