It works with the wheel in place or removed. I like the no-slip handle, the thicker end that engages with the full height of the flare nut, the offset, the length of the tool...everything about this feels like a tool designed by people who use tools. Review: Excellent fit on brake bleeder fittings - Nice snug fit to the 8 mm brake fittings found on Toyota and many other vehicles. No worries about rounding off the fitting's hex. The only thing that would have made me happier, is an 8x10mm size so I wouldn't need 2 separate 8mm and 10mm wrenches for front & rear brakes. I had originally bought one of the chinese flare nut wrenches and returned it same day it arrived, because the fit and quality was so inferior. The Proto wrench cost nearly 3x more than the chinese wrench, but worth it IMO.
