## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the sound of this horn?**
A: It sounds like a loud tweeting bird call. When I sound this horn, people in front of me start looking up into the trees, rather than behind them where I am approaching. It is definitely loud, but not very effective as an alarm for approaching bicycles.

**Q: What is difference between it and version http://www.amazon.com/hornit-db140-cycle-remote-trigger/dp/b006tdev20/ref=sr_1_13?ie=utf8&qid=14478894 ?**
A: The new hornit has a different horn sound along with the chirping sound. (Older unit had a steady tone sound). Horn sound of the new unit closer to that of a car. Mount is rubber and easier to put on (don't need an Allen wrench). New trigger mount is more bulky though. I prefer the old trigger as it was easier to put under the hoods of my road bike brakes. The triggers are not interchangeable. Found out the hard way.

**Q: What sound does it make?**
A: Check this URL for a video of the horn in use and two audio clips of the two sounds you can select.http://www.thehornit.com/the-hornit-db140/the-hornit-db140.html

**Q: What does it require for batteries, and are they included?**
A: The new V3 Hornit dB140 requires 2x AAA batteries which are included.

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good product
*by J***L on February 14, 2019*

I opened the box yesterday. I'm happy it included batteries. I unwrapped the tape from my road bike handle bar and ran the remote button to where my thumb would be, near my brakes. (Different types of bicycles may require a slight variation in set up) but its pretty straight forward. The mounting bracket wrapped nicely around my handle bar. I'm ready to ride. Having read other reviews, I'm weary of the rubber strap. I've had no problems with mine, but other reviewers say they brake after a while. I can see how that could happen eventually. My bike computer, front and rear lights are all on wrapped mounting brackets, but those are all made of a more durable plastic, not rubber. IF the rubber strap is a weakness (which I'm not saying it is, just that other reviews do say that) Hornit might want to consider the plastic strap rather than rubber. That might perfect what seems to be an otherwise great product. Will report again after a few rides. I'm eager to use this as I had a collision with a car who didnt see me coming.OK so many rides later ........This was well worth it. Its nice and loud, it gets the attention of motorists. No complaints at all. The rubber strap seems to be holding out fine thus far. I wouldnt move it around too much though (in terms of adjusting the position of the button by unstrapping it and placing it somewhere else). Find the most logical position for it (according to your bike) and leave it there. Been maybe a few months no. I cycle pretty frequently and this item deserves its five stars (Please note I have the horn alone and NOT the horn/light combo)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ People Mover!
*by N***N on June 22, 2013*

I love it. I don't think I could ride without it. I ride in public park nearby that has over 5 miles of paved trails. The park gets lot's of visitors that walk dogs. This is where the Hornit comes in handy. I normally just beep this a couple of times and people will notice me and move. The dogs for some reason get pissed off and try to attack me but that might just because I almost blew their ear drums.... All in all, people move.Cars on the other hand do not. It might just be that the Hornit doesn't sound like a car horn so people don't notice. I think the Hornit is more for the park then on the road. The Hornit has two sound settings, a single loud beep and chirping. The chirping is louder than the beeps but when I'm in the park, people look to the sky because they think it's a bird. I prefer the loud beeps, more distinct than the chirping. People hear it.I was a bit hesitant before buying this because of the price and because I thought it would give people a heart-attack. Now, after buying the Hornit, I realize that I shouldn't have been hesitant at all. The price is well worth it for what you get. Every time I go out biking, the Hornit prevents at least 3 collisions that could have happened. As for giving people a heart-attack, it doesn't. Some of the younger kids jump but that might be because they have better hearing but most people are grateful for it. They're just happy I didn't hit them.Would I recommend this? Well yeah. Thats why I wrote this review. Every biker out their should have the Hornit!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Horn for Year Round Riders, Especially in Urban Areas
*by A***P on September 10, 2013*

I commute through NY City traffic to and from work year round. With the high volume of car, bike and pedestrian traffic, I needed something that was a) loud and b) worked in the heat and, more importantly, cold.Initially, I had purchased the Air Zound. It is a loud, air horn, that uses a water bottle sized air container to power the horn. While both horns are loud, and will definitely get attention from both peds and drivers, I found two problems with the Air Zound.1) I had to pump it up every two days with the horn set at half volume. This is inconvenient.2) In cold conditions, the "diaphram" inside the horn stretches out of shape leaving you a horn that will only make a "blatt" sound. The Pros:- The horn is definitely loud. When riding, it will definitely get the pedestrians to look up from their texting! It also gets drivers attention with no problem.- It mounts easily and is easy to take on and off the bike. This last point is important to me as I park my bike outside of my office building for the entire day out of my sight.- Most importantly, it works in any weather. I used it when we had single digit weather last winter with no problems.- Great battery life. I have had the horn on my bike for about 11 months so far and have not had to change the batteries yet!The Cons:- some people have complained about the sound of the horn. To me, it's not an issue.Overall, I think this is a great attention grabbing horn for those that ride in urban areas or ride all year round as it holds up well in the winter. In addition, the price has dropped from the $60 I paid for it when it was a new item. I highly recommend this horn.2017 UPDATE:I still have my original horn (along with the mount AND trigger) and it works great. Picked up a new version (not sure when they updated it) as I am now riding over the Brooklyn Bridge daily for work and the tourists don't seem to pay attention to 140db of sound!! The new version has the original chirp sound but the alternative sound is now more like a car horn. Very nice update as, when they don't pay attention to the chirp, I now hit the second horn and give them both sounds. Works like a charm. The new version has two cons that I am not so happy with though. The first is that the mounting strap, while easy to put on does NOT hold the horn in place. I have to adjust the position of the horn to get it to face forward MULTIPLE times per ride. The second, the old version had a button you would push under the horn to remove it from the mount. Nice and simple. The new one requires you to press two tabs on either side of the mount with one hand while you slide the horn off. It is VERY awkward to say the least. While I would still recommend the horn for those riding in urban areas, I had to take one star away from my initial review.
