They aren't going to separate without you physically pull on them so no need to worry about losing one half or them coming apart. I think possible applications are MANY. I had been looking for a way to keep my husbands pens and tire gauge from falling out of his pocket all day; he's an auto service writer. I sewed one magnet inside the outside pocket, and the glued the other to the back of the shirt. It works great!
