However, if like me you have a bike with a non-round shape (2019 Trek Domane) which forces you to clamp via the seat post, you will need to be cautious. When I clamp via the seat post, the weight is distributed approximately 60/40 (front/rear) with the wheels on. It’s stable enough that that point. When I remove the wheels, things get dicey. Since the rear wheel is twice the weight of the front, the weight distribution becomes something like 65/35 or 70/30. At that point, the bike will tip over towards the front if I’m not careful. **Q: Is there enough clearance to rotate a crank with pedals installed? I'm also interested in a stand where I can use my chain scrubber.** A: There is more than enough clearance. I rotate our cranks all the time with bike upright on the stand. Plenty of room. Nice stand too, well made & sturdy. **Q: How durable is the Clamp? it appears to be made from plastic.** A: I would give it an acceptable rating. The hardware is adequate for what I use it for. If I were to regularly work on bikes I would not buy this product. Specific to the clamp... So far it has not popped out of position or given any indication of being weak. The entire setup is wobbly, but I use it for storing and quick maintenance for my 29 pound mountain bike. It is very portable and gets the job done for DIY maintenance. If you have a bike much heavier than 30 pounds I don't know if I would recommend. A bench or wall mount would be the way to go. My only complaint is that I do find it necessary to rotate the clamping handle and loosen it to securely grab and remove my particular bike (could be my anodized seat post or diameter). If I leave it to where I simply apply pressure or release the handle (aiming to be able to slip my seat post in/out of the clamp, it is not tight enough to hold my bike and the bike's seat post slips down. I'm fairly use to it by now. Overall I rate it 3.5/5 for what I wanted it to do, and a 4/5 for value compared to competing products. Yes, it has plastic parts. It also does not cost $200. I mounted a 1981 high tensile steel Raleigh on this stand, the bike must weigh above 27 pounds with the back rack on it...no problem. It is SO NICE to have the bike secured while trying to work on it. So much better than the homemade stand we had earlier this summer. My issue, a minor one is that the clamp is a relatively soft plastic and the interlocking teach that hold the bicycle in place are already showing a little ware. That said, the price is great, therefore the value is good. Length of the neck is a little short, requiring the bike to be close to the mounting surface. Pedals and the sort need to be worked around. The clamp works well on my bike, but it is quite light. May be challenged by a heavier frame. I’m quite happy overall with the purchase. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Holds bike in place better than your girlfriend *by R***K on April 30, 2014* I only did one small repair with this clamp so far and here are my findings.The clamp weighs 1877 grams. Square base which is 11.5 by 11.5cm (4.5 x 4.5") is made of metal. The two tubes that are nicely welded together in T shape are made of metal too. I think it is aluminium. Steel would be heavier. The clamp itself is made of solid-looking plastic. Jaws of the clamp have rubber on them to hold bike better without scratching it.Dimensions of the thing are: 34cm (13.5") by 27cm (10.5"). Now, distance between the edge of the base and the bike's tube mounted in this clamp is only 13cm (5 and 1/8"). That is if the clamp would be mounted on the edge of the bench top in the position as the clamp is photographed here. That would not leave space for pedals to turn. But if you would mount it on the bench turned 90 degree counter-clockwise (as to the position on the picture), so the base is vertical, then you would get a clearance. I hope I explained it well enough and you can picture those positions. I have never add my pictures to the Amazon gallery but will try this time. If I am successful you should be able to see what I mean.BTW, those things should really be explained by the manufacturer or seller.
