For light when the door is opened. To be installed inside.** A: It probably would not work in a dorm fridge. It is activated by a gravity switch that works by being in the upright position when the cooler lid is opened. A refrigerator door opens sideways. It could work if the light were mounted on it's side, but as I wrote in my review of the Coghlan Cooler Light, it barely works on a cooler, so I would not bother to try it. **Q: I can't keep light to stay in my chest freezer. the light won't say on. i used 3m dual stick layer tape. did anybody have this same issue?** A: This item has the worst tape I have ever seen I put them on my boat in the cooler I cleaned the lid inside with acetone to make sure it would stick. The next morning both lights were floating in the water! I tossed them both in the trash I wouldn't buy them if you are reading this review. **Q: How does it attach to the cooler lid via double side sticky tape (3M) or with screws? and is it motion detecting or lid switch?** A: Hello. Thank you for your interest in our products. The Cooler Lid Light attaches via stick tape. There is no mounting hole for a screw. It has no switch and will turn on and off automatically. **Q: Can you use this on soft coolers?** A: Yes but beware. Any cooler with recessed portions of the lid will not let light flow into the cooler as designed. I don't know how many times I have been digging through the cooler at night only to pick up 5 or more cans before I found that trusty beer, but not anymore. Honestly I didn't have high hopes for this cooler light seeing as it was only 8 or so dollars, but like I said, well worth it! I am actually about to buy 3-4 more for all of my other coolers.When I first got this in the mail, I immediately took it out of the package, got my cooler, and stuck it on the lid. I was like a little kid standing by the fridge opening and closing the door trying to figure out if the light goes off when you close the door or not. Believe it or not, it does lol. You can hear a pin/switch/ball falling as you close the lid to break the circuit, and the light goes out.Believe me when I say there is plenty of light to see any can in your cooler. I first had this in my 128 can cooler and could see everything on top like it was daylight.
