View larger. Authentic Detail and Movie Sounds With this replica, the modelers at Playmates have accurately recreated the 2009 version of the Enterprise to the finest detail. Constructed completely from plastic, it measures a foot in length and is about six inches across. The primary "saucer" area has been sculpted to imitate the contoured surface of the original ship, and features painted windows and insignias. Atop the saucer is the Enterprise's bridge, which lights up with the push of a button. The ship's deflector and warp engine nacelles also light up and blink with a blue glow. Upon pressing the button, you'll also be treated to sound effects taken straight from the movie. You'll hear the engine roar and the Bussard collectors whirring. The replica even plays back real dialogue between Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto).Explore the Final Frontier -- From Your Office Desk The Enterprise comes with a unique, ice-blue display stand that will easily fit on a desk. It attaches to the replica using a ball bearing, allowing you to angle and position the ship as you please. It should be noted that this replica is based on the movie, and is not based on the classic NCC-1701 design from the original Star Trek series. The Enterprise was reinvented for the latest movie and features an updated, more modern look. The primary hull of the original ship has been "smoothed out" for a sleeker, streamlined shape. Still, this is the ideal model for any serious fan of the 2009 movie. What's in the Box USS Enterprise model and display stand. It's nice. Could be much better. Worth it, though.

Pros:A - Nice level of details (I've checked the model against the movie. Everything that is important seems to be there).B - The scale seems to be fine, mostly.C - It's durable, apparently.D - Low price.F - I like the light grey color.G - I like the blue and red lights.Cons:1 - The saucer section has a 3 degree pitch up (very annoying).2 - The general finishing, especially on the bottom surface, i.e. apparent screws, gaps, battery compartments, speaker slots. (these stuff scream "I'm a toy!" very loudly).3 - Poor selection of sound effects.4 - Can't turn on the lights only.5 - I don't like the color choice for the stand. It's a big blue part. Should be a neutral color.6 - I believe the main bridge should be one millimeter higher (the viewing screen is too thin compared to the movie).7 - The white light on the upper surface illuminates the whole saucer section, showing a big rectangle inside the model.UPDATE:I managed to open up the saucer section and apply some modifications. I got problems 4 and 7 completely solved! Now I can use the key at the bottom to turn on and keep on all the lights (without the sounds). And I still can activate the sounds by pressing the bridge. Also, the white light was isolated so that it only illuminates the small holes it is supposed to illuminate. No more wires and battery compartment showing up inside!Since those two modifications are easy to do and make the toy much more fun, I'm raising my rate to four stars. On the down side I found that the neck and saucer section are not only screwed together, but also glued! Therefore, unfortunately problem number 1 will be impossible to solve.

Really neat toy (or model) of the newest Enterprise

*by J*** on Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2014*

I, like many, balked at the Abrams version of the Enterprise. It looked too stylized. The phasers pulsed like a machine gun and weren't a steady stream. The bridge looked like an Apple store. But like many, I too have difficulty with change. And the more I looked at the newer Enterprise, the more I liked it. The more it 'sunk in'. I liked the pulsing phasers (in battle, they seem more exciting and even practical). I love the over-sized, beefy nacelles - they scream 'power' to me. So with that, I decided to buy this for myself. The sound clips are scant: only about four or so. They are loud and clear, but don't do much for me. The nacelles, deflector dish, and lower sensor suite on the saucer glow a nice bright blue when activated. The top of the saucer has cutouts where white light shines through, illuminating the areas where running lights exist in the movies. The impulse engines glow a nice crimson red. The only thing I did to change it was to open up the saucer section, and apply black acrylic modeling paint to the inside of each saucer half. This cuts down on light bleed though the plastic of the model. The ship itself is very sturdy, and feels like it could take a tumble from a kids' hands, unlike my Diamond Select models which are more for 'big' kids. How does this stack up to the Diamond Select models? I'd say favorably. The DS models have more intricate paint jobs (at least my two do), but the lights and sounds are comparable. This Enterprise absolutely destroys the DS models with regards to its display stand. The DS stands that I have needed to be glued internally before I could display them. They simply would keel over and crash. The new Enterprise has a socket and the stand has a ball, and friction keeps it steady. You can pose the ship in any angle possible, and its solid as a rock. The major downfall of this Enterprise for me is that the saucer section is canted upwards. This is mostly noticeable from the side. Others have mentioned this issue, and said there was no way to correct it. Unfortunately, I have to agree at this point. There are screw on the inside of the saucer where the 'goose neck' attaches, but this joint also seems to be glued or otherwise sealed. There are lots of nice details etched into the molding of this ship, but the paint job doesn't highlight them which is a shame. I used a 005 black Micron pen to fill in a few details, but left the rest blank.Aside from that, this is a fun ship to have set up next to your TV or on your desk. It also doesn't cost an arm and a leg like some of the Diamond Select models either. Unless you build your own model, or until an outfit like Diamond Select acquires the rights to make the new Enterprise, this is your best bet for a 'JJ-prise' of your very own.

    Better than Expected.

This is the first Playmates model I've purchased. I typically buy the Art Asylum/Diamond Select models or have models commissioned. I bought this one primarily for my son, but also because I was curious about comparing it to the AA/DS models. Although AA/DS doesn't have the new Enterprise in their line-up, there are plenty of models to compare it to. First the Playmate model's build quality is better than expected. Fewer seams and gaps than I've recently seen in AA/DS products. It's clearly more "plastic" looking, but it also seems to be more rugged than the AA/DS models. Refreshingly, all the features actually worked as advertised. Bussards, bridge lights, impulse engines, nacelle lights all light as they are supposed to. With AA/DS this can be hit or miss, although I don't have other Playmate models to compare this one with. The sounds were considered low resolution by some reviewers but I think they are fine. I do wish there were more and I wish that the ship had the option of keeping the lights on separately from the sounds. Then again, with AA/DC you never know what you are going to get. The standard D has no lights when the saucer section is removed but the Dreadnaught D does. You can keep the lights on separate of the sounds on the D, but not on the HQ 1701. There are 3 different Es, each with different color patterns, lighting differences and other flaws -- the biggest being the absolutely ugly black lettered DS Copyright painted on the nacelles -- tacky. So in retrospect, the Playmate model doesn't stack up too badly against the AA/DS models.
