The 18650 battery units do in fact get hot quickly on the highest (H1) setting, which is about 1600 lumens, so I disagree with the other commenter, and can assure you it is completely normal for the headlamp to get very hot on this highest setting. I only use the highest setting for 2-3 minutes at a time, when I really need it. If I want a continuous high setting, I click it over to the H2 setting which is about a 1000 lumens. Still gets hot, but not as much, and I can keep it continuously on that setting for 2-3 hours until the battery runs down. I think these headlamps actually time out on their own when they are on the H1 setting after a few minutes so they don't overheat, but I'm not sure. Note that the H2 setting is different than the medium settings. And yes, always a good idea to twist the cap a bit when traveling, etc, so it doesn't accidentally turn on. I've had a lot of headlamps over the years. I have yet to find anything brighter, more rugged, and more dependable than an 18650 Zebralight. You bought the right light. Just make sure you have a good, quality battery to put in there, preferably one where even if assembled in China, the cell itself is made in Japan. **Q: I just got mine and i can't figure out how to put it into Firefly mode. Can someone give me clear instructions?** A: From off long press to get to low From off double click to get to medium From off short click to get to high While in any mode double click to get to the secondary brightness of that mode (L1,L2,M1,M2,H1,H2) there is a mode memory for each level so if you switch from H1 to H2, the next time you turn it on high it will go to H2. You can also press and hold to cycle through the levels. Triple click from on or off goes to strobe which you can double click from there to cycle through the strobe modes (also with mode memory) Four clicks from on or off will show you the battery level. The light flash 1 to 4 times. One flash is low battery. 4 flashes is full or almost full battery. Bonus tip: if you're worried about your light accidentally coming on in a pocket or bag, which has happened to me many times, loosen the tail cap just a little to break the connection and you won't have that problem.
