Man people on here are gouging the stone because the DON'T KNOW HOW TO SHARPEN! The sharpest razor finish you will get is from a whetstone. It doesn't leave deep grooves in the metal as does diamond. By default, the grit size will equate to a stone being soft. You stroke forward SUPER LIGHTLY and you push harder on the reverse stroke. 12000 grit is a polishing stone grit.
