The cable just makes a good connection from earphones with a std hifi connection to a tablet or phone **Q: I am about to purchase a Sennhiser 700. Will use of a cable extension degrade the sound?** A: In theory, the increased length of the cable - and the materials used - can affect the SQ. However, in the real world, the short length of this(presumably high quality) cable should not audibly degrade the SQ. If you want to be even more certain, get a custom made cable.Personally, I use the Grado version of this adapter type (also sold by Amazon).
