But to truly glean the full meaning I will have to read it more than once. Some things mentioned in the book about souls moving in and out, even different souls occupying your body temporarily, and also the surrahs and asurrahs and how they feed on your emotions freaked me out ! This is such a book. The story reminds me a little of The Bhagavad Gita, The Ashtavakra Gita, some of the Upanishads and the Ramayana, in that there is a King or leader who is not yet fully enlightened or awakened, but is wiser and more mature than the rest of his community. Then there is God who arrives in a particular form to aid the main protagonists on their journey to awakening and freedom from suffering. A part of the story that really hooked me, had the flavor of the eeriness espoused in old episodes of The Twilight Zone, Unsolved Mysteries, and The Outer Limits. You are forced to wonder the nature of consciousness itself. How it isn’t really something solid or static at all. How perception is ultimately plastic. Coherency, subject to distortion. What feels so real and solid, is anything but. It put a spin on the possibility of reincarnation that I had never considered. It forced my eyes wide open and gave me chills. The highlight, for me, was this very simple but tremendously powerful analogy of a mermaid. It so clearly highlighted how bondage begins for us. How we identify with certain patterns and get pulled into the depths of limitation and subjective imprisonment, emotional slavery. I purchased this book because of its over 300 high-star reviews. Within the first few pages, it became clear why so many people loved it. I did too! And for the price, you definitely cannot go wrong! P.S. if you are wondering why I didn't give it a perfect, five stars. It is because the body of the book was so good that I was expecting a jolting, powerful ending.
