I've had no problems except that it's a little noisy. **Q: does it use a whole strip of staples or half?** A: There are 2 different versions of this stapler. Mine does half strips. I was really confused when I first got this as I believed mine to be faulty as the staple-holder-thingy never slid out all the way.
