Until I get everything fine-tuned, I'm shooting a 100"+ image 17' away onto a peach painted wall. I have 4 BRIGHT can lights in the living room area, plus all the lights in the kitchen, plus 6 windows that leak some light around black blinds. So, no direct sunlight but certainly not a basement with no windows. With this setup, it's perfectly watchable as-is. The wash-out from the lights is minimal and fine for watching the news and sitcoms in daylight. It's so good, my wife doesn't want to spend the money on a screen. If we want to have movie night, we can just turn off the front lights. The kitchen lights in the back don't affect the image. I have already purchased an ALR screen for long-throw projectors and that will seriously mitigate the light from the ceiling, (as I have already tested with swatches from Elitescreens). I HIGHLY recommend this projector. It's as easy to set up and configure as you could imagine and shoots a bright image onto the wall - so much so that the whites are WHITE, NOT PEACH. It's mounted next to the ceiling and I need to move a motorized couch to get to it on a ladder. Not fun to install once let alone 3 times now. It's a small spot but very bright. I had the probeam that was meant for office use initially and it had a good picture but this one is much better for videos.
