**Q: What is the hardness grade of this lead?**
A: This lead is more fragile than graphite lead of, say, HB hardness, but less fragile than 0.5mm colored lead. For me, after extensive testing, the sweet spot for colored lead is 0.7mm in a kuru toga (rotating lead) pencil, which gives a line close to 0.5mm but with less breakage.

**Q: Is the lead red?**
A: Yes, this is a red lead.

**Q: Are they non photo?**
A: Only "non-photo blue"  (a very light blue) is non-photo (that is, not picked up by the high-contrast black and white photography used to make negatives for printing). Not sure this is relevant any more -- most printing now relies on direct-to-plate processes and skips negatives.

**Q: How does this compare to the color eno lead?**
A: The red Uni lead is stronger and erases better than Pilot color Eno red lead. This Uni red lead seems to be exactly the same as the Paper Mate red lead. I have not compared the other colors.
