OBSERVATIONS AND TESTING: 1) The BM battery physically connected smoothly. (I had issues with that on another brand of aftermarket battery.) 2) It charged quickly and successfully held the charge 24 hours until I tested it with a full discharge. 3) I performed a timed full discharge test, recording continuously from a fully charged battery until the battery died and the camera shut off. I shot video of an analog wall clock to compare the battery “available time” displayed, the “elapsed recording time” displayed, and actual time elapsing on a clock. 4) Overall, from a full charge, the battery recorded for 4 hours 57 min 15 seconds before the camera died. Nice. 5) When initially inserted, the fully charged battery showed 285 min. (4:45). I immediately stopped the camera, removed the battery, then re-inserted it and it showed 274 min. (4:34). I did that again and it showed the same 274 min. These displays turned out to be somewhat less time than the actual battery ran for. But I think as the battery ages it will slowly transition from show less, to about correct, to showing more than the battery will actually do. We’ll see in time. 6) When I recorded, the actual time elapsed was only 84% of what the countdown of burned time on the display was showing. So I thought it was going to give less than the display indicated. BUT… 7) It reached zero min on the display at 3:48 elapsed time which was 80% of the original 4:34 (274 min) the indicator suggested. It then started flashing the low battery indicator. And then it recorded for ANOTHER HOUR AND NINE MINUTES running from 3:48 to 4:57 after the 0 min and low battery indicator first appeared! 8) Very important: When the battery was fully discharged, the camera shut off. It successfully saved the recording. I have read reviews of some cameras powered by after market batteries losing the recording. That does not seem to be an issue here. CONCLUSION: the battery performed well and at $25 rather than $210 for the Sony branded battery of same capacity, was great relative value IF it lasts and holds up like the Sony. I have one Sony that lasted 15 years before I tagged it as defective. I have two others that have lasted for 10 so far. However, they no longer provide nearly the recording time they used to. For example, the similar capacity 10 year old Sony battery only lasted 2:58, vs initial display showing it would deliver 280 min or 4:40 and compared to this brand new BM battery providing 4:57. Side note, that Sony battery was $54 ten years ago vs $210 now. Total BS from Sony to price it that way. This battery at $25 provides nearly 2 hours more recording more recording time than the old Sony, which I’m sure has degraded substantially. My only complaint is the battery indicator doesn’t read accurately, but it did deliver for over an hour after the indicator said it was about to die (0 min). I’m not sure that indicator was ever correct though. On the old Sony branded battery I ran he same test today and it erred in the opposite way, showing more time than it actually recorded.(280 min or 4:40 displayed, but only delivered 2:58) It will be interesting to see how that changes with the life of this battery, but for now I’m happy enough knowing it should record well past the 0 minute indicator. Most events I record run about 3 or occasionally 4 hours. (3 set band gigs of 3 hours, occasional 4 set gigs.) So this battery should handle those with no changeout. I’m probably going to order a second one as backup and see how they both do. At this point I’m thinking if they last they will probably outlive the camera’s hard drive. TBD. No idea how long those last but hopefully a long, long, long time because the camera was about $1200 when I bought it new around 15 years ago. I’d be happy to use it another decade or more!
