They are not as slippery as a lot of mats can be because they are thicker and more durable, but they are made out of corkboard so they don't grip the table or anything. I would say, if you knock it accidentally (and somewhat forcefully of course), it will move, but it won't go flying across the table. **Q: I understand you shouldn't place hot objects on them. That means not even a bowl with hot soup, or just oven-hot pots?
