I noticed a slight smell when unwrapping but not so much that it was a huge deal. I loved the color and design with the center line for balancing. The reason I gave 3 stars was simply because I couldn't gain much traction during poses. My hands were slowly slipping so I had to keep readjusting during poses (downward dog). The mat is otherwise very comfy and appears to be made well. This is only my 2nd time purchasing a mat. The first seemed to slip somewhat as well. I was just hoping this one would have been better at not slipping. Hope this review helps! Ps. There is no slip where contact is made with attire, just hands. As a follow up, customer service reached out to me to address my concerns, even so far as to ship a free yoga towel to cover my mat. I haven't tried the towel yet which fits over the mat like a pillow case but I'm willing to give that a try as well.
