Review: Patience Leads to Great Results - I've done some book nooks, wooden puzzles, and the Cubicfun steamship puzzle. The quality of these Cubicfun puzzles is phenomenal, with sturdy board and construction that isn't flimsy at all when put together. This is my second Cubicfun one, and the results are incredible. Lots of detail, but simple instructions to follow. The little tool they give you to help punch out the items is the best to use for most things. I also had some fine tweezers, a file, and an exacto knife to help when the pieces just wouldn't punch out. The paper for the sails is not particularly delicate. Just take your time. I did this one in about 10-15 hours (I'm slow) and listened to audiobooks. Very relaxing. Everything fits pretty well, although some of the rigging and masts had to be adjusted multiple times to get taut. The LEDs were easier to install than I thought they'd be, and look phenomenal in both light and dark. Only issue is that the side board "sticker" pieces don't always stay on well, but it's not a big deal, and I might add some glue to those. But you DO NOT need glue for anything, and things will fit together better as you complete the ship, so don't worry if it seems not quite perfect as you're going along. If you're having difficulty putting a part in, pinch it a little bit and it helps a lot. Overall, I'd highly recommend this model.
Review: Fantastic value and very attractive end result. - Fantastic value and very attractive end result. However, the thin foamcore does make the build very challenging, especially when leverage is limited in inserting tabs. In particular, the complex rigging and difficult angles resulted in many bent pieces of "rope" and "netting." Although glue is technically not needed, some of the sticker pieces needed me to use a glue gun (super glue would likely work too). Not sure if my design differed, but the battery comparment and switch in the stand were relatively easy to access. It's also a great platform to kitbash and customize. I'm not sure, but I think the scale is about 1:100. I picked this up to try to incorporate in TTRPG. I included some pictures of 25 to 32 mm minitaures. It's a bit small, especially compared with the cannons and stairs. But it still works, or would be perfect for halfling or gnome sized ship. I'm likely going to remove the masts, spars and rigging for ease of play. Or refit the masts for magnets. Some tips: For poor leverage situations, squeezing the tabs before trying to insert was helpful. The numbers on the parts are usually on the bottom or hidden when put together. An exacto knife or a small precison screwdriver helps. It's very time consuming, but using a dark marker to color the exposed edges can improve the appearance. If you have time, replace the rigging ropes with black thread or twine.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I would like to get this set for my wife, but it says “for men”. Do you think she would still be able to put this together?**
A: Being the proprietor of lady parts myself, I did not struggle extraordinarily with the assembly. I think your wife will do just fine.

**Q: How long will it take to assemble this ship?**
A: Four hours? Total? My foot. I am an experienced model builder and there is no way anyone could pop out, prepare, wire, assemble over 350 pieces that fast. I've got 15 hours into it and I'm about half way. And some of the pieces do NOT fit exactly, especially if the tabs are bent, but generally overall the directions are accurate. Definitely consider gluing the main members to the hull; after all, why would you want to disassemble it? Some things you will need that I have found (maybe not you) are, elmer's glue, scotch tape to hold some of the pieces in place while the glue dries, an exacto knife to remove excess glue before it dries and to expand the slots that are often exactly too small. They don't tell you this on the box. The bottom hull is definitely the hardest part. It is unconscionable that the base would be made WITHOUT glue. I have glue certain points and the ship is steady like a rock and you don't have to worry about the pieces falling out after "assembly". Besides, people often glue their jigsaw puzzles after they complete them, so it would go doubly so for this model. Not EVERY piece mind you, but at the main stress points, especially when they are creased to be folded.
It is a very fun and challenging product, and I would add not to gift it to anyone under 14 unless they have the patience of a saint. Four hour assembly? I'd have to see it to believe it. Unless there are like four or five people working together on it.
But my rules with puzzles or models are these: 1) There is no deadline; 2) there is no reward for speed, 3) never lose your temper, and 4), No matter what, have fun! If you have little to no patience and are quick to give up, this or any other technical puzzle would be absolutely not recommended.

**Q: Can a novice assemble it?**
A: These metal ships are incredibly beautiful but the parts are very very small because they’re so cheap I would suggest getting like a $10 metal kit and see if you can’t fill the tabs and if it works for you I got very frustrated with Metal so I’m using the U gears with cars and boats and the cubic fun 3-D shapes are a blast and I had never assembled one and it’s something the whole family can pitch in on

**Q: I have never done a model like this before. Is it easy for a beginner?**
A: I've made 4or 5 of CF puzzle/models including a couple that are called "Hard." I'd start with a smaller, easier on with fewer curved surfaces. Curved surfaces are fuzzier to get fit but once you get the hang of how the material fits together, the bigger projects are just the same moves repeated more time. Never be afraid to use a little school or roll on glue if a part feels loose. Both those glues don't dry to fast and dry so clear that the glue never shows.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A great model from a distance. Fun to put together, hard to make a show piece.
*by T***E on October 1, 2020*

First off, I cut my index finger and had to wait for it to heal before I finished it half way through. It takes two hands. Its not really easy, and the end product will look better if you put more into it than the instructions say. Being said, seal up cracks that LEDs will shine through, and its not a real 3D model, but a 2D as the pieces only have two sides, not 360 degrees.. Basically, you need to know that its like a jigsaw puzzle with images on the top an bottom. The pieces seat together much like a jigsaw, but it had gaps. So the LED will shine through those gaps unless you take measures to plug the seams. Every piece has only two sides. The ropes and the cannons arent round, and there will be a visible sandwich effect on each piece. The end result is pretty good looking. Im not saying this model is crap, but its not a high quality detailed model, but it isnt horrible either. Just know what you are buying. For the money, I had fun and frustration putting it together. I said earlier it not really easy. I say that because there are some parts you need to pay attention to while putting it together. Any segment that requires to to place two tabs in one slot is easily damaged, requiring some glue to hold them together. The LED lights on the rear cabin under and the eaves are a real pain. Some of the pieces will loosen during connection, and will require some glue. The seams in the hull where the LEDs shine will probably require a additional seal such as electrical tape to keep the seams from leaking light. At the end, it looks pretty bad ass in shadow and at a distance in full light. Its large at about 24in X 24in x 8in. Its has its challenging moments to put together. It isnt a high end detail model, but you arent going to need a laundry list of extras to put it together. Its cheap, fun to put together, looks decent, and you can do a little DIY to improve it marginally.
