I don't think I ever get more than a 5 degree change in ambient air temperature. Keep in mind this is not an air conditioner, it cycles water over a radiator and blows air past it, thus cooling the air a bit. You can add Ice to the top that helps keep the air extra cold for an hour or so. **Q: Do you need to have cross ventilation for this to work properly ? I sleep with the bedroom door closed and want to be sure this will work.** A: I haven't had to use any cross ventilation. It cools great. If concerned, put a fan just behind the unit to blow into it. That works too on really hot nights where you don't have cross ventilation or a window to put it in front of. **Q: Can you fill the water holder all the way to the max line? When I add water the volume does not register even at the min.** A: I had the same problem. You need to unplug the machine, put your hand in the opening for the water then move the float(located in the bottom left hand corner) up and down a few times. Then the water level should register. **Q: so, if I don't have an open window this will not work effectively?
