Sodium fluoride is the listed ingredient in this product, it is inorganic and added to dental products to reduce bacteria and improve oral health. Used topically and spat out (as in the case of mouth wash) has been found to very effectively reduce dental disease. There is evidence (controversial as always, please do your own research) that when fluoride is swallowed in excess it may have negative effects on the body and on enamel development causing some people to want to avoid it all together. The personal conclusion I have come to is that topical sodium fluoride (as in the case of this product, as long as you spit it out) can without a doubt contribute to good oral health, but swallowed sodium fluoride may have side effects at high levels so personally I will avoid ingesting it. **Q: Is this cruelty free / without animal testing?** A: All Waken products are cruelty free. Their website does confirm this. But, after reading one of the answers on here I’d like to point out that, just because a product is vegan, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s cruelty free. **Q: Fluoride is a registered neurotoxin, are there any without fluoride?** A: From their website: Sodium fluoride is an important ingredient in Waken’s formulas. It means that our mouthwashes help prevent tooth decay. Fluoride is the most effective treatment against cavities. This is a nice mouthwash. The flavour is mild and gentle. It certainly is not like Listerine that can blow your head off. My mouth feels fresh after using it and I get a nice taste.
