I routinely oil my leather holsters and YES I do oil the inside of holster with a rough cloth as far as my fingers can reach. After oiling, I place pistol in holster and then using my hand, I press and push the leather to form around the pistol in the holster. Yes the oil may give you a smoother pull, but more importantly your pistol will have a tighter fit in the holster - smoother draw and much better retention for pistol. **Q: does this product work on vinyl ?** A: No. It is meant for various leather applications that allow it to penetrate the leather. Vinyl typically is a water proof surface that would not absorb the oil and might damage the vinyl surface. **Q: Would this soften a new thick leather (cowhide) saddleback bucket handbag?** A: Yes it will soften the leather. It would be helpful to apply the oil to both the inside surface as well as the outside. Application of Neatsfoot oil will also darken the color of the ltather somewhat.
