Goes on smooth, used a pump sprayer and then went over with a paint roller. Has a milky color when first applying and then dries clear. Applied two coats back to back. Deck is about 450 square feet and I used almost two gallons. Only complaint is the handle, I had one break off while pouring product in to my pump sprayer. Beads water like crazy and brings out the beautiful color of the wood.
