My one issue is that the cushions were too unstable for them—thus the 4 stars. I ordered replacement scratch pads directly from the company to replace them and it made a world of difference in their willingness to try it out. Plus, they understand what scratch pads are, so the replacement helps to lure them on. (It would be great if the company gave the option of scratch pads or cushions when ordering!) I did have to coax them with food but they’re starting to use it on their own. Several reviews complained that it’s not super tall—especially if you live in an apartment with high ceilings—but I have two large bookcases my cats love to be on top of and cannot get to on their own and I saw this as the answer to that in addition to the exercise they would get climbing up and down. As you can see from the videos/photos, they had some confusion about how to go up and down—they kept trying to climb on the outside instead of going through the shelves. I again used food in my hand to lure them in the right direction until they began to get it on their own. (Sorry for the wobbly video! I followed the pictures (in lieu of words for the directions) and though easy to put together, the directions for the shelves were wrong. In the directions, after reading that several times to make sure I was doing it correctly, the shelves were put together so that there was no room for the cats to jump onto the next level. So, I had to make sure the shelves were just so so my cats can make it upwards. But overall, love this and so do my cats!!! I have it next to a floor-to-ceiling window in my living room and they lay on it to watch the wildlife outside. And it's sleek and doesn't take a whole lot of room like a cat tree.
