The size is just right for a breakfast burrito, a sandwich, sliced apples and cheese or whatever snack you give your hubs to hold him at bay while you make dinner. Ceramic means dishwasher and microwave safe and these are stated to be lead-free! The colors are fun, make the food appear more appetizing, and even though the patterns don't match my regular ceramic plates, the colors all go together which is a bonus. I would have purchased these plates even if they didn't match color-wise. They're so jazzy they make a simple PBJ sandwich on Wonder bread look appealing. LOL We were burning through stacks of paper plates the same size as these until they just got too expensive to justify. With six of these for the two of us, there should always be a couple of clean ones ready to go while the others are in the dishwasher (where they fit so nicely). They are small enough that it just takes a quick swish and swipe to wash them by hand if needed. Can't say enough good things about these little plates. Wish I'd purchased them a long time ago. I seriously use them every day for "just enough" of whatever sounds good - cookies, crackers and cheese, a little fruit.
