(By the way, this filter seems to have TWO layers of screen, on every fine and one less fine, then the outer perforated metal cone to support them.)I tried my favorite solvent for oil-type goos (naphtha) and it did nothing. None of my hand-brushes have tiny enough wires to scrub in the little spaces between the wires (the super-fine screen on the inside of the cone is made of wires that are 1/2 the thickness of a human hair!)So, I opted to BURN IT OUT!Well, you take an engineer and add a tough little problem and fire naturally happens - what can I say?[sheepish grin]I used my propane torch to burn it, and I tried to keep it from getting too hot (that is, discoloring into the blue range, as you can see I did in one spot). There was a good amount of smoke for a bit, then that stopped, which meant the organic stuff was done burning, so I stopped.After burning it out, it works MUCH better - not like new, and I can still see what is now 'charcoal' in the mesh, but it works well enough to use daily.My next step is to try my pressure washer the next time I fire it up - 3600 PSI water oughta help a bunch!RECOMMENDATION:Clean this filter with SOAP and water immediately after every use. And run it through the dishwasher often as well. This will keep the oils down, though they will still build up over time. Then fire up your torch and smoke it off!----------------------------------------------------------As an engineer, i have to say that I love the fit-n-finish of this thing. The spot welds are so tiny. I know, that's a nerdy thing to say, but there it is.And, YES! this thing works as advertised at an amazing price.It cleans up quite easily (though I use a bit of soap to make sure the oils go away each time).Speaking of cleaning up, I found that the best thing to do is to:1) knock it out upside down on our compost bin to get the majority of the grounds out,2) add water from the tap starting around the top edge working my way towards the bottom in circles so the remaining grounds are near the bottom in a bunch of water3) then quickly flipping it over to dump out the last of the grounds.4) a quick switch with a hand dishwashing wand thingy for the soapy part and...5) the final rinse - COMPLETE! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A GREAT COFFEE MAKER *by T***K on Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2016* Although I had a few concerns when I ordered this coffee maker I'm completely satisfied with it. It's one of the lowest price pour overs on Amazon but it's very strong and well made. Can't see why it won't last forever. The metal mesh is very fine and allows no grounds through into the coffee so there's no need at all for a paper filter and flows at a rate that brews the coffee perfectly. Was also concerned that without some kind of handle it might get a little hot to touch after brewing but that's not the case at all. A five star product all around.EDIT; After a few months the inner wire screen began to clog and water ran more and more slowly through the filter. Cleaning with vinegar helped for while but eventually it barely flowed water at all. I tried everything to clean it, including paint thinner, all to no avail. Finally just tore out the screen and started using paper filters in it. It's still a very nice looking stainless steel coffee maker and now really should work forever, so four stars. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great product at a great price! *by M***G on Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2017* I've used several different types of coffee making methods from espresso machines and vacuum coffee makers to French press and pour over coffee makers. IMHO the most convenient and flavorful cup can be had by a pour over coffee maker. I've been using a Mellita plastic pour over maker with the disposable filters for a few years now and it hasn't let me down but I decided to try something different. The price point and permanent filter drew me to this. The build quality is outstanding, especially for the price. I was quite impressed upon opening the box it came in. Upon first brew the difference in flavor was noticeably better. The design allows for better airation and more oils to pass through the filter allowing for a better tasting cup of coffee. My Valhalla Java Odin has never tasted better. I'm able to pick up more notes and nuances I've never tasted before. If you love coffee this filter is a no brainer.
