**Q: Does this cable also convert from balanced to unbalanced without modifying the mic cable? Or do you have to ground the shield on the mic cable?**
A: if you are going into a mic with an XLR connector on it you should be OK, I modified a Kenwood mic I had so I'm going from Kenwood 8 pin through this cable which is XLR back to a 8 pin so I had to solder my mic cable anyway if that makes sense

**Q: This cable has the 1/4 inch phono plug for the foot switch, am I correct?**
A: Yes, you can use a foot switch or wire it to a desk mic stand.

**Q: IS this a female xlr on this cable?**
A: yes, plugs directly into a standard (professional) microphone.  I use a Shure SM58 on boom arm into my kenwood ts-2000.
