Half of them are cut horizontally (ex. top half and bottom half of the banana) and half are cut "vertically" (for lack of a better word) so each half is identical (ex. Strawberry cuts so that half of the stem and leaf is on each side).--Horizontal cuts: banana, star fruit, kiwi, lemon, carrot.--Vertical cuts: strawberry, eggplant, broccoli, tomato, and red chili pepper.I got this for my daughter because she is obsessed with the cut the food videos on YouTube. She absolutely loves this set. I chose this one over the wooden set because the wooden fruit are weapons of pain and destruction in my household of toddlers. They can easily break a window. These are lighter, but just as fun, so a better choice for us.Each piece has only 1 small circle of velcro adhering the halves, but it is very strong velcro and well secured to the halves. These actually provided some real challenge to get them apart. And the eggplant and red peppers were extra challenging because they don't lie flat to cut. It took her a little bit to figure those two out.The shopping basket is adorable too. Overall, this set made an amazing birthday present for my 3 year old. She then put it on her little pretend cookie sheet, and popped it in her play oven! My 4 year old neice came over and she loved this set as well, I will be purchasing a set for her too. The pieces have strong velcro and stay together very well. You get quite a few fruits and veggies, a carrot, a banana, a tomato, an eggplant, a lemon, a head of broccoli, a strawberry, and a kiwi. Also included is the basket, cutting board, and pretend knife. The velcro and plastic vegetables are extremely well made. My daughter has 2 other play food sets, and these are the best quality out of all 3 sets. Very, very pleased with the quality of this product. Nothing has come off, velcro is perfect, no fading of color, after repeated use for over a month. I love that there was a lot more items in there.This one is stuck together with velcro so it would definitely have to be for an agethat has motor skills and strength.
