It doesn't feel stripping and my hair felt nice and soft to the touch. I bought the matching conditioner and used it after but it didn't feel nice after I rinsed it. My hair felt dry and tangled easily. I tried them separately a few times and realized the conditioner is just not for me but the shampoo is great. It's a very watery consistency and I have very thick long hair so to make it last longer I use just a little of this and just a little of Shea Moisture Shea Butter Shampoo.
