The covers, dividers, and folder pockets are all made of durable plastic, so they last at least until the paper runs out. The spiral is covered with fabric so it doesn't catch on things, and you can easily clip a pen inside that space. The dividers/folders can also be moved within the notebook to separate subjects or mark your place. Also, the folder pockets are transparent, so you can read what's in them; I place a syllabus in the front of each one to quickly tell which class it's for. I've been using these for a total of 5 college semesters, and I haven't had one rip or show any wear so far.
